The chairman of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Match Commissioners Appointment Committee, Alhaji Babagana Kalli has reeled out what he called core values for anyone who is eager to oversee league games in the country.

Kalli stated as much while addressing a gathering of football administrators and other stakeholders at this season’s match commissioners’ seminar, which was witnessed live by Sports247 in Abuja.

While listing what is expected from all match commissioners, Kalli also used the occasion to remind NFF president, Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau, about some promises he made to the officials.

He began by pointing out that an unstated ‘code of conduct’ is in place to maintain standards for match commissioners at all levels of Nigerian football, and declared that anyone found wanting would be delisted.

Kalli expatiated, “The committee, in its efforts to have quality, has removed some match commissioners from the list.

“This means each match commissioner should do what they know how to do best. You must also be sincere when carrying out your duties.

“Work without any interference or any influence. We should also be committed to the core values of our duties when we are at our duty posts.”

The match commissioners’ boss went on to declare that the target during his tenure is to ensure that all members of the group key into the ongoing football development vision of Gusau and the NFF’s executive committee.

“We want you to be the best, according to the outline of the vision of the NFF president, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, and the executive committee members.
“We must follow the mission for improvement in the standard of our leagues.

“During this tenure of Alhaji Gusau, we have already seen that there is an improvement in our leagues and a resurgence in grassroots football across the country,” Kalli pointed out.

He concluded by citing specific innovations that have been added to the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL), but urged Gusau to keep his promise of providing corporate uniforms for all match commissioners across the federation.

“The board has fulfilled its promise of procuring new communication gadgets for the Nigerian premier league, but we still need more to be done.

For instance, Mr. President, if you can recall, you promised us that the match commissioners will be suited.

Since then, I have been having a lot of calls, a lot of challenges; because we want to brand this league to be one of the best in Africa.

We want to continue to build a brighter league for the future of our younger generation that are coming up,” Kalli affirmed.
