Nigerian Fencing Federation Secures ₦40m Equipment Donation for 2024 Junior Epee World Cup

The Nigerian Fencing Federation has received a major boost ahead of the 2024 Junior Men’s Epee World Cup, securing ₦40 million worth of equipment from U.S.-based Absolute Fencing.

The donation includes five aluminum fencing pistes, each measuring 1.5m x 17m, ahead of the prestigious tournament, which Nigeria will host in December.

The event, sanctioned by the International Fencing Federation (FIE), marks another milestone for Nigeria, the leading fencing nation in Sub-Saharan Africa. Gary Lu, President of Absolute Fencing, praised Nigeria’s progress in the sport, stating, “We are pleased with the Nigerian Fencing Federation’s dedication to advancing fencing. As part of our commitment to supporting the sport across Africa, we proudly donate these fencing pistes for the upcoming World Cup.”

Adeyinka Samuel, President of the Nigerian Fencing Federation, expressed excitement over the donation and the federation’s growing international recognition.

“This support will motivate us to ensure a successful tournament. Nigeria has consistently hosted major international fencing events, solidifying our position as the frontrunner in Sub-Saharan Africa. This donation is a testament to our achievements in developing the sport,” Samuel remarked.

He called on corporate bodies and individuals to support the federation’s efforts to further elevate Nigeria’s status in the global fencing community, noting that fencing pistes are the most expensive equipment in the sport.

Nigeria remains the only Sub-Saharan African country with the right to host a Fencing World Cup, continuing to lead the region in the sport’s development.
