Nigerian teenage midfielder Joel Yakubu has completed a move to Czech Republic Premier League club, Slovan Liberec, after signing a three-year contract.
The 18-year-old, nicknamed “Spirit,” sealed the deal following a successful medical, as confirmed by his former club, Mahanaim FC.

Joel Yakubu has garnered attention for his impressive performances in midfield, showcasing excellent vision and creativity.
In a statement, Mahanaim FC expressed pride in Yakubu’s development, stating, “We wish him all the best in Czech football after his move to Slovan Liberec.”
The young talent also shared his excitement on social media: “Thrilled to announce I’ve signed my first professional contract with Slovan Liberec in the Czech 1st League! Grateful to Mahanaim FC for the foundation & to my family, friends, coaches, and media for their support.”
Yakubu’s potential was first noticed by Slovan Liberec after standout performances for Mahanaim FC, where he was instrumental in both scoring and assisting.
His move follows that of former teammate Yahaya Lawali, who also signed for Czech club MFK Karvina.
Slovan Liberec coach Jakub Harant praised Yakubu’s debut for the club’s B-team, highlighting his quick ball control, game intelligence, and calm finishing.
“We believe he will continue to improve and play a bigger role in the team,” Harant said.
Joel Yakubu now has the chance to showcase his talent on the European stage as he embarks on his professional career.
