ASABA 2024: Mobolaji Ogunlende Celebrates Four Gold Medals In One Day; Pledges More Investment, Greater Support

Lagos State commissioner for youth and social development, Honourable Mobolaji Ogunlende was on top of the world this Wednesday, as he celebrated Lagos team’s haul of four gold medals in boxing at the 8th National Youth Games.

Sports247 reports that the entire delegation from Lagos State went dancing and singing with so much joy, after Agboola Oyindamola, Bello Olamide Lawal, Sofiat Yakubu and Bolarinwa Michael all clinched gold in their respective boxing categories.

Leading the celebrations, Ogunlende gave credit to the state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and declared that words could not describe how happy he was with the day’s booty.
Ogunlende said, “I personally don’t feel there is any word in the dictionary that can express how I feel right now.

“Here in Delta State, we’ve seen our team perform magnificently. They’ve won four gold medals, and we are here to witness it happen.

“It confirms the support we are getting from our governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu. It shows his attention to sports and his commitment to ensure we take our sporting activities high.”

Ogunlende also took a look at the state’s performances in other sporting events at Asaba 2024, all of which he stressed reflect the true love of sports in Governor Sanwo-Olu’s administration.

“We have witnessed the results demonstrated by our sthletes in boxing, in squash and in abula. We will continue aiming higher.
“It’s a testament of our support for youth sports and encouragement to us as a government and our administrators,” Ogunlende affirmed.

He also reasoned that all officials in Lagos State are now further encouraged to work harder in order to get better results in the future, which he believes will be brighter with similar feats by Lagosians.

“It’s a testament for them to remember that we are united and committed to go farther.
“We want to ensure that our youth continue to exhibit their talent and that we will bring them up to international standards,” Ogunlende analysed.

He then spoke about his personal emotions regarding Wednesday’s quadruple feat, adding: “I am overwhelmed and excited. Congrats to everyone. Congrats to Mr Governor, the deputy governor and the entire Lagos State.

“We are excited to be part of this event, where everyone is a winner … but there’s only one ultimate winner.
“Congrats too to the athletes and everyone who has been part of our success.”

He concluded with a verdict that all athletes, coaches, sports officials and stakeholders from Lagos State must not rest on their oars after the achievements of their wards at Asaba 2024.

“This also shows us that we must work harder, because there’s always room for improvement.

“As a government, this encourages us to do more for our youths and for them to do better.

“When we take the gold medals home to our governor, he has no choice but to continue to invest in sports and to support our youths.

“Finally, we will also keep up our focus on social issues, gender equality and youth empowerment; as we work ultimately to leave no one behind,” Ogunlende posited.
