David Iniobong Ibokette of Team Bayelsa achieved a remarkable feat by winning gold in the taekwondo -51 kg category at the 8th National Youth Games, marking his debut at the event.
When asked about his feelings on winning gold, David expressed his joy and pride, saying, “It makes me feel very happy because, over the weeks, I’ve been training hard for this, and I’ve been training really hard for this, so I came here to make my parents, my coaches, and Bayelsa State proud.

I am glad to say I came here, and I conquered. So it makes me very, very happy. It makes me proud of myself. I’m proud of myself.”
David shared that this was his first time competing in the National Youth Games, although he has participated in seven other competitions.
He proudly stated, “National Youth Games, my first outing, and the first outing I am making Bayelsa State proud. .”
When asked about his role models, David mentioned CJ Nicholas, Sabon Romeo and his coach Judith, who have been significant influences in his taekwondo journey.
Expressing his gratitude to the Bayelsa government, David said, “I’m telling them thank you for giving me the opportunity to represent them and making them proud. I’m thanking them.”
Looking ahead, David is determined to achieve even more success. “More Gold,” he confidently stated when asked about his future aspirations.
David’s dedication and hard work have not only brought him personal pride but have also made Bayelsa State proud.
His future in taekwondo looks promising with his commitment to continue winning gold medals.
