NWFL CHAMPIONSHIP 2024: Wazbak FC Star, Taiwo Ayomide Shines in Calabar with Two Goals During Her First Major Tournament

Wazbak International FC youngster, Taiwo Ayomide is picking many positives from her outing at the Nigerian Women Football League (NWFL) Championship play-offs in Calabar, especially as she was able to score a brace of goals in a single match.

Although the memory is still fresh with a 6-0 loss her team suffered against Osun Babes of Osogbo earlier in the competition at Saint Patrick’s College, Calabar, sports247.ng was present when Wazbak finished off with a 6-1 victory over Kaduna Queens.

Two of those goals were scored by Ayomide, and the jovial lass confessed that she is still excited by her feat, because it is the first time she would net a brace in any match.

Ayomide told sports247.ng excitedly, “I am very happy that I was able to score two goals in a single match.

“This is the first time that we will play in a major championship, and I was able to score two goals.

“Although I did not score more than those two goals in other matches, I am still very happy.”

She added that her joy in Calabar was doubled by the fact that her club was not relegated to the third-tier of women’s football in Nigeria.

“I am also very happy that we are not relegated from the second division. Though we did not qualify for promotion, at least we will stay in the championship.

“It’s our first time, and it means we can still gain promotion next time,” the exuberant Ayomide enthused.

She concluded by revealing the lessons she learnt from her participation in the competition, but interjected that some aspects of officiating by the referees were questionable.

“The first lesson I learnt is to believe in my coach. He told us that we will meet tough opponents and face many challenges in this competition.

“Everything we have seen here is exactly the way he said it would be.

“We also experienced different kinds of officiating by the referees.

“They usually do not blow the whistle when our opponent is rough on us, but we have to keep our cool all the time.

“In any case, I thank the referees and the officials for everything we saw here. We also thank God for helping us see the successful end of this competition,” Ayomide concluded.
