In a special ceremony held on Thursday at the Government House in Lafia, Nasarawa State Governor, Engr. Abdullahi Sule, was honored as the Grand Patron of the Nasarawa Chapter of the Sports Writers’ Association of Nigeria (SWAN).

The Governor expressed gratitude for the recognition, emphasizing his commitment to supporting sports development in the state. Governor Sule acknowledged the contributions of Eche Amos, a prominent SWAN member, in arranging the gathering and fostering collaboration.
“I want to thank you for the honour done to me today. It’s my desire to promote sports and talents in Nasarawa, and our efforts are paying off,” Governor Sule stated.
He referenced the recent success of local athletes, including tennis player Ismail Shuaibu, whose potential is attracting international attention. The Governor further pledged to host the SWAN National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Nasarawa, noting the opportunities it would provide to showcase the state’s talent and achievements.
SWAN Nasarawa Chapter Chairman, Comrade Smah George, praised the Governor’s accomplishments, particularly the promotion of Nasarawa United FC and FC Basira, and highlighted the rationale behind selecting him as their Grand Patron.
“We have been monitoring Your Excellency’s accomplishments in the sports sector, which are not only laudable but mind-blowing,” Comrade George remarked.
National President of SWAN, Comrade Benjamin Isaiah, lauded the Governor’s support and urged him to consider the Association’s requests for a bus and Secretariat, noting their importance for the advancement of sports journalism in the state.
The event concluded with the presentation and official decoration of Governor Sule as Grand Patron, performed by the SWAN Nasarawa Chapter leadership alongside the SWAN National President.
