Nasarawa State Athletes Shine Bright, Secure Spots In National Youth Games

In an extraordinary display of skill and determination, Nasarawa State has clinched National Youth Games qualifications in three sports, marking a significant milestone for the state’s budding athletes.

Their remarkable performance at the North Central Zonal Eliminations in Jos, Plateau State, has propelled them onto the national stage.

HOCKEY (BOYS): The Nasarawa Boys’ Hockey Team, under the guidance of Coach Zainab Sule, secured their place in the 8th National Youth Games with an impressive six points from two matches. They triumphed over tough opponents from Plateau and Niger States, demonstrating their dominance and strategic prowess.

HOCKEY (GIRLS): Similarly, the Girls’ Hockey Team from Nasarawa ensured their qualification for the national event, which will take place in Asaba, Delta State, in September 2024. Their consistent performance led them through the zonal eliminations, positioning them alongside Team Benue State for the main competition.

VOLLEYBALL (GIRLS):  The Girls’ Volleyball Team, coached by Sani Mohammed, also earned their spot at the national games through a series of impressive performances. Their qualification reflects their skill and teamwork, showcasing the state’s commitment to sporting excellence.

This impressive achievement highlights the relentless dedication of Nasarawa’s young athletes, their coaches, and the support staff. It also underscores the significant investment in sports development by Governor Abdullahi Sule.

Hon. Jafaru Ango, Nasarawa State’s Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, expressed his pride in the athletes’ accomplishments. “Nasarawa State could not be prouder of the contingent’s achievements at the Zonal Qualifiers. Congratulations to our great, young ambassadors and National Youth Games-bound athletes. We look forward to supporting them in Asaba next month.”

The 8th National Youth Games will take place from September 9th to 19th, 2024, in Asaba, Delta State, featuring participants from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
