As the world’s elite para-athletes gather in Paris for the 2024 Paralympic Games, Nigeria’s Honourable Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh, has issued a rallying call to Team Nigeria to demonstrate excellence and determination on the global stage.
Speaking ahead of the Games, Senator Enoh highlighted the event as a pivotal opportunity for Nigeria to reclaim its sporting pride.
“Paris 2024 is not just another sporting event; it’s an opportunity for Team Nigeria to show the world what we are capable of. Our athletes have trained hard, and they are prepared to give their best performance. We are here to compete, to win, and to bring glory to Nigeria,” said Senator Enoh.
Team Nigeria arrives in Paris with a formidable contingent of 35 athletes, supported by a dedicated team of coaches and medical staff, all poised to compete against the best in the world.
The Paralympic Games, running from August 28th to September 8th, will see Nigeria contesting in four sports: para athletics, para badminton, para powerlifting, and para table tennis.
Nigeria’s representation includes five athletes in athletics, two in badminton, nine in powerlifting, and eight in table tennis.
These competitors are eager to build upon Nigeria’s storied history at the Paralympic Games, a journey that began in 1992 at the Barcelona Summer Paralympics. Over the years, Nigeria has achieved remarkable success, amassing a total of 80 medals, including 40 golds, 19 silvers, and 21 bronzes.
Senator Enoh expressed his unwavering confidence in the team, affirming his belief in their ability to achieve greatness: “Our para-athletes have always been a source of inspiration and pride for Nigeria. I have no doubt that they will make us proud again in Paris. We are all behind them, and we are confident that they will exceed expectations and bring home numerous medals.”
As the 2024 Paralympic Games commence, Team Nigeria is set to showcase their talent, resilience, and determination, aiming to further enhance the country’s impressive Paralympic medal tally and continue its legacy of sporting excellence.
