2024 Nigeria Women Football League, Premiership and and WAFU- B Champions, Edo Queens has been rewarded with a sum of one hundred million naira only for their efforts, Sports247 reports.
Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, made the announcement at the grand reception organised for the team by Edo State Government on Monday ( 26 August 2024) after the team conquered the West Africa Football Union B, CAF Women’s Champions League Qualifier in Ivory Coast over the weekend.
The Governor in his address at the ceremony described the huge sum as a reward for their exceptional performance and hard work throughout the tournament and congratulated for their feat.
He then charged the team for a greater achievement at the 2024 CAF Women Champions League as more rewards await them as the WAFU-B should be used as a stepping stone for greater achievement.
Edo Queens won all their matches and crowned a wonderful team performance by defeating Ainonvi of Benin Republic, 3-0 in the finals of the 2024 CAF Women Champions League WAFU B to win the coveted trophy.
Consequently, Edo Queens qualified for the 2024 Women Champions League slated for Cairo later in the year where they can aspire to become the first Nigeria team to win the competition since it was introduced in 2021.
