Moses Simon netted his first goal of the new season as Nantes claimed a 2-0 victory over Auxerre, securing their first Ligue 1 win of the campaign.
The Nigerian winger opened the scoring in the 14th minute, curling in a well-placed shot from inside the box to give the Canaries an early advantage.
Simon, who was lively throughout, was substituted in the 78th minute for Egyptian forward Mostafa Mohamed as Nantes looked to maintain their lead.
The hosts sealed the win in stoppage time when Baherba Guirassy found the back of the net, doubling their advantage and confirming all three points.
The win marks Nantes’ first victory of the season after a goalless draw against Toulouse in their opening fixture. The former Ligue 1 champions will hope to build on this momentum as they continue their campaign.
On the other side, Auxerre featured Nigerian defender Gabriel Osho for the full 90 minutes, but his efforts were not enough to prevent the loss. The result leaves Auxerre still searching for their first points of the season.
