Sports247.ng reports that, although Omeruo was still a rookie in the Eagles at that time, he was able to displace then captain, Joseph Ikpo Yobo to pair home-based defender, Godfrey Oboabona in the squad handled by late Stephen Okechukwu Keshi.
Omeruo, who is on loan at Leganes from Chelsea of England, is now eager for another high-point at the continental soccer showpiece, which he believes would also help him add to his value at club level.
He admitted that his performances in two matches at the 2018 World Cup in Russia helped him seal a move to Leganes, which his career has taken a massive progression, such that winning AFCON 2019 and playing well en route to the title would be another boost to his aspirations.
Omeruo added: “Wearing the Super Eagles jersey for the first time was a dream come true.
“It was an unbelievable feeling and my most memorable experience was winning the AFCON 2013 and playing at the World Cup.
“I think my form at the World Cup definitely helped. I think this really helped me to move to Leganes.
“When I wasn’t picked in the first game, I didn’t give up. I kept training, stayed focused and it paid off.
“I came on and did fantastic in the remaining two games Nigeria played at the World Cup..”
