Shooting Stars Claim 2024 Optima Energy Gold Cup With 2-0 Victory Over Beyond Limits FA

In a highly anticipated clash at Ikenne, Shooting Stars SC (3SC), affectionately known as the Oluyole Warriors, emerged as the 2024 Optima Energy Gold Cup champions after a commanding 2-0 victory over Beyond Limits FA.

The triumph marks yet another feather in the cap for 3SC, who showcased both grit and tactical superiority throughout the final.

The game’s turning point came in the 32nd minute when 3SC was awarded a penalty after Olaniyi Fasanmi was brought down by Sodiq inside the box. Aliyu Abubakar stepped up to the spot and confidently converted, giving the Oluyole Warriors a crucial early lead.

Beyond Limits FA, the youth team of Remo Stars, responded with relentless pressure, creating several opportunities to equalize.

However, 3SC’s defense stood tall, particularly goalkeeper Mustapha Lawal, who was in superb form, repeatedly thwarting Beyond Limits’ attempts to level the score.

Despite their best efforts, including a near miss by Oluwaseyi Oguniyi in the 85th minute, Beyond Limits couldn’t find a way past the resolute 3SC defense.

As the game approached its final stages, Shooting Stars sealed their victory in the 72nd minute with a well-executed set-piece. Desmond Ojietefian rose highest to meet a precise cross, directing a powerful header into the back of the net, doubling 3SC’s lead and effectively putting the game out of reach for Beyond Limits.

In the dying moments of the match, Beyond Limits continued to search for a goal, but Mustapha Lawal remained a wall in the 3SC goal, making crucial saves, including a stunning stop in the 90+6th minute. The young Beyond Limits side, despite their valiant effort, were unable to find the breakthrough they desperately needed.

At the final whistle, Shooting Stars celebrated a well-deserved 2-0 victory, clinching the Optima Energy Gold Cup title for 2024. Speaking after the match, 3SC’s coach, Gbenga Ogunbote praised his team’s performance, saying, “We came here with a plan, and the boys executed it perfectly. This victory is for our fans and everyone who has supported us.”
