He however expressed his delight to work with Nigeria, a country he described as a ‘huge footballing nation’.

“I can confirm that I have had a dialogue with the Nigeria Football Federation,” Andersson told the Swedish newspaper Expressen.

“Dialogue is ongoing, and I don’t really want to say more than that”, Anderson gave an update on the discussion.

The 61 year coach then gave his opinion on his chances of being hired by the NFF for the job left vacant by Finidi George.

“I have been in this industry for so long and know that things can happen in different ways. So we’ll see what happens in the future.”

A quick check on the Curriculum Vitae of the Coach shows he has experience in both club and international football but has none in coaching an African side.

However, his experience of qualifying and leading Sweden to the 2018 FIFA World Cup may give him an edge as the Super Eagles are on the brink of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup in USA, Mexico and Canada.

The Super Eagles next games comes up on September 7th against Benin Republic in Uyo, and away to Rwanda as Coach Augustine Eguavoen has been told to be on standby to take charge of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying two matches while the NFF sorts the hiring of a foreign coach for the team.
