Edo Queens, Nigeria representatives in the CAF Women Champions League ( CAFWCL) WAFU B Qualifier are ninety minutes away from history as the team scratch the grand finale ticket of the competition on Tuesday evening , Sports247 reports.
The team who have been a run of back to back victories in the group stage , defeated hosts Inter D’ Abidjan 2-1 in the Semi Finals of the WAFU B Tourney played on Tuesday Bouake to book a place in the final of the competition.
Edo Queens wasted no time in making their intention known as they lead after just seven minutes into the game through superb midfield Emem Essien, while Blessing Ilivieda makes it two goals up in the 34th minute with Adjoua Niamien reducing the tally for host but, the Nigeria champions dis enough to see out the game in their favour to book their first ever regional competition final in their first ever attempt.
Edo Queens will now face Ainonvi of Benin Republic in the final, as the enterprising Beninoise side defeated AS Enticelles of Burkina Faso by 1-0 in the other Semi final of the tournament, where the Edo landlord can aspire for more historic moments.
A win for Edo Queens in the final will see them become the second Nigerian team to win WAFU B regional tournament and they will also set the record of being the first Nigerian team to win five back to back at the competition.
The WAFU B, competition serves as the qualifier for the CAF Women Champions League as the winner of the competition takes the solitary ticket to represent the WAFU B region in the 2024 edition of the competition billed for Cairo later in the competition.
