Barau FC Appoints Former Super Eagles Assistant Salisu Yusuf as Head Coach

Nigeria National League side Barau FC has officially unveiled former Super Eagles assistant coach, Salisu Yusuf, as their new head coach ahead of the upcoming season.

The announcement was made on Monday, with Yusuf signing a one-year contract with the club, which is owned by Nigeria’s Deputy Senate President, Jibrin Barau.

At 62 years old, Yusuf brings a wealth of experience to Barau FC, having previously held coaching roles with several top domestic clubs, including Nasarawa United, Kano Pillars, Enyimba, and El-Kanemi Warriors.

His coaching pedigree is further highlighted by his stint with the home-based Super Eagles, whom he led to the final of the 2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Morocco.

Yusuf’s new role at Barau FC comes with the significant responsibility of guiding the team to promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

His extensive experience in the domestic football scene is expected to play a crucial role in achieving this goal.

Before this appointment, Yusuf was temporarily contracted by Rivers United as an advisor, offering his expertise to their technical crew.

Yusuf’s first assignment with Barau FC will be overseeing the team’s participation in the Gusau/Ahlan Pre-season Tournament 2024 in Jos, where the club has announced a 30-man squad.

The tournament will serve as an early test for Yusuf as he begins his journey with the ambitious club.
