The Lekki Scrabble Classics has set the Nigerian scrabble community abuzz with the announcement of a N1 million top prize for its 2024 edition, elevating the tournament to new heights.
Organized by the Lekki Scrabble Club, this year’s event is scheduled to take place at the Peninsula Hotel from September 28 to 29, with top players from across the country and enthusiastic newcomers expected to compete.
Now in its third edition, the Lekki Scrabble Classics has become a prominent event on the national calendar, attracting participants with its blend of intense competition and generous rewards.
Players will battle it out over 18 rounds in two categories: Category A for those with ratings of 1300 and above, and Category B for players rated between 0-1299. In addition to the grand prize, spot prizes, gifts, and consolation rewards will be awarded to deserving participants.
The tournament has been officially sanctioned by both the Nigeria Scrabble Federation (NSF) and the Pan African Scrabble Association (PANASA), further cementing its reputation as a premier event on the continent.
The president of the Lekki Scrabble Club, Samuel Anikoh, expressed his excitement about the upcoming tournament, describing it as the “flagship event” of the club, which he believes is one of the most prestigious scrabble clubs in Nigeria, if not globally.
“You’ll be hard-pressed to find a more impressive tournament organized by a scrabble club,” Anikoh remarked, highlighting the tournament’s evolution and the significant prize money on offer this year.
He also emphasized the luxurious and serene environment of the Peninsula Hotel, where participants will enjoy complimentary breakfast and lunch, making the experience even more enjoyable.
