Lagos State FA Appoints New CEOs To Overhaul Football Leagues

In a strategic move to bolster grassroots football, the Lagos State Football Association (LSFA), under the leadership of Hajji Gafar Olawale Liameed, announced significant appointments on Saturday.

Veteran sports journalist and former Lagos FA board member, Wale Joseph, has been named the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the State Football League. Joining him is seasoned football administrator, Dele Gbajumo, who takes on the role of CEO for the State Under-15 and Under-17 football leagues.

During a meeting at the LSFA Secretariat, the Vice-Chairman of LSFA, Dotun Coker, emphasized the board’s commitment to grassroots football development, citing the engagement of these two experienced figures as pivotal to achieving their goals.

“The State League needs an urgent restructuring, rebranding, and repackaging to attract sponsorship,” Coker stated, underscoring the necessity of elevating the league’s standard and appeal. He also revealed plans to establish an Elite State League, designed to be both highly competitive and appealing to sponsors, which, in turn, would enhance the overall quality of football in Lagos.

Coker also highlighted the importance of the Under-15 and Under-17 leagues in the association’s plans. He pointed out that the FA’s scouting system is robust for under-13 and under-15 players, and the development of young footballers remains a top priority.

The appointment of Dele Gbajumo, a former Chairman of Ikeja Divisional FA, reflects the board’s focus on nurturing young talent through a well-structured and attractive league system.

To support these initiatives, Wale Joseph will work alongside Mr. Musbau Oseni and Mr. Adeleke Ibiyemi, while Dele Gbajumo will be assisted by Mr. Victor Akinmoyo and Mr. Bello Ishola. The LSFA has also announced the opening of registration for the 2023/2024 State League, with the deadline set for Friday, August 23, 2024.
