Nigeria hopes for a Medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics are now on Ese Brume in the women long jump event after another medal hopeful, Odunayo Adekuruoye
surprisingly threw a 4-0 and crashed out of the wrestling event at the Paris 2024 Olympics on Thursday Morning.
Adekuoroye lost her bout in the quarterfinal women’s wrestling 57 kg against China’s Kexin Hong, 10-8.

Her superior opponent, scores 8 points in quick succession and to upstage Adekuruoye who stormed to a healthy lead 4-0 at some point early in the fight.
It is the end of the road for the Nigerian, who is ranked number 3, after raising hopes for a podium finish earlier by defeating Fouzia Aouissi by a VIN (Victory by Injury).
Also in the 800 m men semi final, it was the same tales of crashes for Nigeria, as Edose Ibadin missed out on a place in the semifinals of men’s 800m.
The Nigerian record holder finished 7th in his Repechage heat with a time of 1:49.09, and won’t progress to the next round.
Botswana’s Kethobogile Haingura took the automatic spot with a time of 1:45.52.
Attention will now be on the Ese Brume who will be leading Nigeria medal charge in the women Long Jump Final , an event she won at the Bronze at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
The duo of Ruth Usoro and Prestina Ochonogor also made the final and they will compete for medals in the event due for 7 pm tonight .
It’s been a poor Thursday ( 8 August 2024) for Nigeria so far, as the Relay Team crashed out of the 4×100 m in the men and women events earlier this morning.
