Compatriots Ruth Usoro and Prestina Ochonogor also booked their tickets in the final, jumping a distance of 6.68m and 6.65m respectively.

This is the first time in the Olympics history that Nigeria will have three jumpers in the final, an occurrence which increases the chance of finishing in the medal zone by 3.

The story of triumph continues for Nigeria on Tuesday morning in Paris, as Ella Onojuvwevwo also made the best of the Repechage chance to qualify for the semifinals of women’s 400m, running an impressive race to win her Repechage round.

Onojuvwevwo came through the bends and just motored to a comfortable victory in a time of 50.59s, taking the sole automatic qualification.

Meanwhile, Samuel Ogazi has found himself in a very tough 400m semifinal heat.

The Nigeria quarter-miler who breaks a 16-year wait for another Nigerian to run in the 400 m race will be going up against Michael Norman, Matthew Hudson-Smith and Christopher Morales-Williams in heat 3 later this evening.

He needs to finish among the best two to book an automatic spot in the final.

Only the top 2 will advance automatically, and the next two fastest runners in the rest of the pool.

Nigeria is yet to win any medal in the 11 days old games but the prospect of winning medals keeps rising by the day as more Nigerians are breaking into the medal zone.
