Olympic bronze medalists, Ese Brume will start her quest for medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics on Tuesday ( 6th August 2024) as nine other Nigerians will be participating on day 11 of the global fiesta, reports Sports 247.
Ese is one of Nigeria’s medal hopefuls at the Olympics as the long jumper has kept her consistency in the circuit to stay among the top three in her event in the last four years.
The discipline which saw her won Medals at the last two World Athletics Championship in Eugene (2022) and Doha (2019) respectively and a Bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
The multiple African and Nigeria champion who is expected to go one step further in Paris will start her campaign in the women’s Long Jump event in group A, alongside fellow Nigerian Long Jumper Ruth Usoro at 10:15 am, while Prestina Ochonogor will also be competing in group B of the event as Nigeria launches A- three- woman hunt for medal in Long Jump event.
Juat like Long Jump, Javelin and Canoeing events will start today at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Nnamdi Chinecherem will be flying the Nigerian in the men’s Javelin event today at 10:50 am.while the duo of Ayomide Bello and Beauty Otuedo will be participating in the 500 m Canoe Sprint at 10 am.
The newly introduced Repechage window for 200 and 400 meter races will afford Udodi Onwuzurike (men’s 200 m) and Ella Onojuwejvo women 400 m) a chance to qualify for the Semi Finals of the 200 meter men and 400 meter women respectively after falling short of the automatic qualifying spot in the Heats on Monday, ( 5 August 2024)
Ella will run at heat 1 of the 400 meter women Repechage at 10:20 am while Udodi will take to the track at 10:50 am in the Heat 1 of the Repechage 400 meter men.
Nigeria can expect her first set of two medals at the Paris Olympics today as Blessing Oborududu fights to finish with a Bronze medal in the Repechage Bronze medal fight against North Korea’s Pak Sol Gum to make up for her painful loss in the Semi Final to Krygyzstan’s Meerim Zhumanazarova as she looks forward to making a back to back podium finish at the Olympics at 6:45 pm.
And sensational Favour Ofili, will wrap up Team Nigeria activities of the day in the final of the Women 200 meter event at 8:40 pm.
The “Star Girl’ will be aiming to finish on the podium and become the only first Nigeria to have a podium in the event in the last 28 years , and becoming the second ever after Mary Onyali won a Bronze in the event at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics .
