Senator John Owan Enoh, Honourable Minister of Sports Development, has stepped in to address the situation, urging Ofili to remain focused and not let this setback distract her from her remaining events.

Since the early hours of the day, efforts have been made to resolve the issue, with officials of the Nigerian Olympic Committee (NOC), including President Engr Habu Gumel, working tirelessly.

They have been in constant communication with the Director of Competition, the Technical Committee, and World Athletics, seeking a resolution. Despite these efforts, the complexities of the situation, affecting multiple countries, made a quick fix impossible.

World Athletics indicated that the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) should have raised concerns when the final list was published in July.

However, this does not clarify how or why Ofili’s name was omitted in the first place. This oversight raises critical questions about the administrative processes and communications between the AFN, NOC, and the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

Senator Enoh emphasized that these questions would need to be addressed after the Olympics. For now, his primary concern is maintaining the morale and focus of Team Nigeria, especially Ofili. He has personally reached out to her, encouraging her to keep her concentration on the events she is still slated to compete in.

“Favor, do not let this distract you. Stay focused and give your best in the remaining races,” he urged. The minister’s message aims to boost the young athlete’s spirits and ensure she remains undeterred by the administrative error.

The rest of Team Nigeria has also been encouraged to remain motivated and strive for excellence. The minister’s proactive approach underscores the importance of supporting athletes, not just through victories but also through challenges, ensuring they have the mental and emotional strength to perform at their best.

This incident serves as a reminder of the critical role administrative vigilance plays in an athlete’s journey, and the need for stringent checks to prevent such occurrences in the future. As the Olympics continue, the hope is for Team Nigeria to overcome this setback and shine in the remaining events.
