Kano Pillars on Tuesday led a wave of events organised to mark the one year remembrance of their late defender, Chinedu Udoji, who died on February 19, 2018.
While League Management Company (LMC), some rival clubs and lovers of the domestic championship also joined in the day’s memorials, Pillars led the way by organising a memorial match in honour of the defender.
Pillars’ media officer, Idris Malikawa disclosed that they decided to play against a selected side featuring former players of the club at Sabon Gari Stadium, Kano.
Malikawa added that proceeds of the game will go out as a donation to the family of the late Udoji, who died a year ago in a car crash in The City of Groundnut Pyramids.
On their part, MeetNPFLStars tweeted: “Exactly 365 days ago, you left this world! A defenders defender, a true leader of men on the pitch!
“Strikers fear you, a Marshall. @EnyimbaFC @pillarsfc and the entire football fans missed you Chinedu! #InMemoryOfUdojiChinedu.”
Officials of the LMC were not to be left out, as the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) sanctioning body added: “#WeRememberUdoji. Chinedu Udoji 1989 – 2018.”
