Recent reports suggesting a crisis in Team Nigeria’s preparations for the Paris 2024 Olympics due to the ‘two kits for one national team’ issue are unfounded.

The Federal Ministry of Sports Development, under the leadership of Senator John Owan Enoh, has issued a clarification to address the misinformation circulating about the team’s kit arrangements.

During a recent meeting convened by Senator Enoh, the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) provided an update on their preparations. Engr Habu Gumel, NOC President, mentioned that Actively Black had donated 200 kits to Team Nigeria.

This donation was noted, but it was emphasized that there was no obligation or contract regarding the use of these kits for both the opening and closing ceremonies. The Ministry was not involved in this donation or its terms.

Recognizing the inadequacy of 200 kits for over 100 athletes and their support teams, the Ministry partnered with PEAK to supply comprehensive kit packages, including track suits, windcheaters, shorts, T-shirts, shoes, and other essentials.

These kits were unveiled to the public on July 8, 2024, and were officially handed over to the NOC and the Paralympic Committee of Nigeria.

The Federal Ministry of Sports Development reaffirmed its commitment to upholding Nigeria’s cultural heritage at the Olympics, ensuring that athletes will wear culturally reflective attire for the opening ceremony.

No agreements or terms with other brands for kit provision were in place outside of the PEAK partnership, and the Ministry has maintained transparency and full support for the athletes.

“The Federal Ministry of Sports Development remains committed to supporting Team Nigeria with the highest standards of preparation for the Paris 2024 Olympics. Our efforts ensure that every athlete is equipped and ready to represent Nigeria with pride and excellence.” – Senator John Owan Enoh, Hon. Minister of Sports Development.
