The former Nigeria youth international has signed a two-year contract with the Portuguese side, which will keep him at the club until the end of the 2025/2026 season.
Known for his aggressive playing style and adept ball-handling skills, Alhassan brings a wealth of experience and versatility to Boavista. The 27-year-old can operate both as a defensive midfielder and a central defender, adding depth to Boavista’s squad.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the move, Alhassan said, “Signing for Boavista was an easy decision because I know how great the club is. Portugal feels like a second home to me, and I can’t wait to meet my new teammates.” His familiarity with Portuguese football, having previously played for CD Nacional from 2018 to 2022, is expected to ease his transition.
During his tenure with Beerschot VA, Alhassan made 43 appearances, demonstrating his commitment and capabilities on the field. His return to Portuguese football is eagerly anticipated, especially given his admiration for the atmosphere at Boavista’s Estádio do Bessa. “The atmosphere at the Bessa Stadium is incredible,” Alhassan remarked.
With three caps for Nigeria’s senior national team, Alhassan is set to reunite with fellow Nigerian internationals Bruno Onyemaechi and Chidozie Awaziem at Boavista. This connection is seen as crucial for his swift adaptation to his new environment. “I know Bruno and Chidozie personally,” Alhassan shared. “I played with Chidozie in the national team and faced Bruno when he was at Feirense. I also shared the dressing room with Filipe Ferreira at Nacional and remember playing against Ibrahima Camara. These connections will help me adapt more easily.”
Reflecting on his journey, which includes stints at FK Austria Wien and Nigerian clubs Wikki Tourists and Akwa United, Alhassan is honoured to join Boavista. “Boavista is a historic club with many titles. I am ready to start working and fight to leave my mark,” he concluded.
Kano-born Alhassan’s move to Boavista marks a significant step in his career, as he looks forward to contributing to the club’s success in the upcoming seasons.
