Finidi Receives Congratulatory Message From Jide Oguntuase, After Getting Rivers United Appointment

Former youth international and crafty winger, Jide Oguntuase has added his voice to congratulatory messages rolling out for Finidi George on his appointment as the head coach at Rivers United FC of Port Harcourt.

Oguntuase, who shot to limelight in the colours of Julius Berger FC of Lagos in the early 90s, pointed out that Finidi’s latest appointment is a reward for the exploits he achieved during his time at Enyimba of Aba.

In response to Finidi’s official unveiling in The Garden City, Oguntuase added that it is in recognition of his fellow-former winger’s abilities, despite his recent troubles with the men’s senior national team, Super Eagles.

Oguntuase declared, “I am very happy for Finidi George for securing a job at Rivers United of Port Harcourt. It’s another way for him to show Nigerians what he has; after winning the league with Enyimba last year and taking them to third position this season.

“I am very happy for him; because he is not a bad coach. This we saw in the few track records he was able to do with Enyimba.”

The former Golden Eaglets and Flying Eagles dazzler admitted that Finidi’s days in charge of the Super Eagles were unexpectedly short, but put it down to problematic issues that usually rock the national team.

Oguntuase posited, “The only thing about the national team is that it is a place where you have many problems upon problems, but Finidi is a gentleman to the core.

“At the same time, most of those players are not ready to sacrifice for Nigeria. Majority of them are not ready. Only very few of them are ready to play for the country with their heart.
“They play for the country as if they are giving us a favour, whereas they are actually doing good for themselves.”

Oguntuase ended with a prayer for the one fondly called ‘Finito’ during his playing days, saying: “Best of luck to Finidi. I hope he will do better with Rivers United.”
