Atalanta’s dynamic winger Ademola Lookman has been honored as Africa’s Best International Footballer at the prestigious Ghana Football Awards.
Lookman, who shone brightly both for club and country over the past year, edged out fierce competition from his Nigerian compatriot Victor Osimhen and Burkina Faso’s standout defender Edmund Tapsoba to claim the coveted award.

The 26-year-old Nigerian international was instrumental in the Super Eagles’ campaign at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire. Lookman showcased his flair and goal-scoring prowess, netting three times in seven matches, helping Nigeria to a strong performance in the tournament.
Lookman’s stellar form wasn’t confined to international duty. He also enjoyed a standout season with Atalanta in both Serie A and European competitions. His most notable club achievement came in the UEFA Europa League final, where he netted a stunning hat-trick against Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen, securing La Dea’s triumph in the competition.
Over the course of the 2023-24 season, Lookman was a consistent attacking threat for Atalanta. He registered an impressive 17 goals and 10 assists across all competitions, solidifying his role as a key player under manager Gian Piero Gasperini. His performances did not go unnoticed, as he was also named Atalanta’s Player of the Season for the second year running, a testament to his remarkable contributions on the pitch.
