In the qualifications, the Flamingos looked fantastic as they effortlessly slid past their rivals. They crushed Burkina Faso 7-1, crushed Liberia 6-1, and crushed Central African Republic (CAR) 12-0 over the course of two legs to guarantee their spot in the World Cup.
The draw for the competition schdeuled for was held in Santo Domingo in the early hours of Sunday, Nigerian time. And the Flamingos had a decent draw.
Together with the hosts, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, and New Zealand, they were placed in Group A.
With one third-place finish each, Nigeria and New Zealand are the group’s top performers at the Under-17 World Cup.
Meanwhile, Dominican Republic and Ecuador will be making their debut in the tournament. Considering the pedigree of the four teams, Nigeria are favourites to qualify, as the only major threat is New Zealand, albeit Dominican Republic could bank on their home advantage.
The Flamingos have never prevailed in the tournament, though. Coach Bankole Olowookere, though, is hoping to win the championship with his daughters this time.
The tournament is scheduled for November and October. October 16 is the date of the first game, and October 4 is the date of the final.
