Olympic Day Celebrations To Be Held Across 16 States in Nigeria

This year’s Olympic Day celebrations will be marked in 16 states and Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, on June 29, 2024.

The states include Abia, Anambra, Bayelsa, Ondo, Edo, Delta, Gombe, Kogi, Ebonyi, Taraba, Plateau, Adamawa, Osun, Enugu, and Imo.

In a statement released by Tony Nezianya, Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), it was noted that Lagos will host a series of physical fitness and recreational activities, including aerobic exercises and other side attractions.

The celebrations in Lagos will centre around the NOC Secretariat.

Dr. Abdul Ibrahim, Chairman of the NOC Sport For All Commission, emphasized that Olympic Day is not about competition but about promoting health through sports.

He urged participants to take it easy, stressing that the day serves as a reminder of the benefits of exercise and a healthy lifestyle.

The Olympic Day, celebrated annually to commemorate the birth of the Olympic Movement, will occur on Saturday, June 29, 2024.

Lagos Celebrations

Start Time: 8:30 am
Activities: Energetic aerobic exercise session followed by sports demonstrations by local athletes and sports clubs.
Talent Hunt: Young athletes will have the chance to showcase their skills and potentially be scouted by sports development experts.
Presentation Ceremony: Participants will receive diplomas to recognize their enthusiasm and participation, aiming to inspire continued engagement with sports and Olympic ideals.

This year’s Olympic Day celebrations come just a few days before the opening of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, which will be held from July 26 to August 11, 2024.

The event will be flagged off by Engr. Habu Gumel, president of the NOC.
