Obehi Osagie, an 8-year-old martial artist who specializes in Taekwondo has talked about what made her interested in combat sports.
Osagie is a trainee of Panamai West Africa martial arts club in Surulere, Lagos. She is the national champion in her juvenile category.
In an interview with Sports247.ng, Osagie discussed her interest in martial arts, saying it helps to build a better world and enhances self-confidence.
“Taekwondo helps to build a better world. It helps you to know how to defend yourself. And you must not misuse Taekwondo, you should only use it for the greater goal.
“What made me interested in Taekwondo is that I can defend myself with it. It also helps to build self-confidence.”
Osagie dreams of representing Nigeria in the biggest stages. In her words:
“I would like to represent Nigeria in the Olympics someday. As of now, I want to be one of the youngest to ever earn a black belt in Taekwondo.
“And they say that they don’t look at your size, they look at your belts. That’s even though you’re small, you might be small but you can also be strong. You have to learn how to use Taekwondo properly.” She concluded.
