Samba Boys came back from a goal down to beat Dinge Flying Bees 3-1 to set-up a mouthwatering quarter-finals clash with the giant killers, Shembe United FC in the ongoing 6th Adamu Yola Gombe South Unity Cup.
Dinge Flying Bees who seemed to be on the back-foot took the lead through Chobe Mohammed with barely minutes to the end the first half despite Samba Boys controlling the game before the goal.
However, things changed in the second half as Samba Boys changed formation and incessantly put Dinge Flying Bees’ players under pressure.
The constant pressure paid off as Dinge Flying Bees cowed as they were unable to contain the high pressing game from the Samba Boys. Goals from Samba Boys’ Gayus Akila, Jonathan Gambo, and Ayuba Adamu finally separated the boys from men.
The Coach of Samba Boys, Zephaniah James revealed that Dinge Flying Bees were unable to repel their onslaught in the second half and this gave way to the three goals they scored in the second half.
“It is not easy falling behind in a game like this but it is a good thing that we were able to recover and win the game,” James told the Adamu Yola Cup in an interview.
“I asked my players to play a fast game because I knew that Dinge cannot cope with the intensity of our game, so I told them to increase the tempo which they did and it won us the game.”
With regard to their next round opponents, Shembe FC, Coach James heaped praises on the team but warned them about getting complacent.
He added: “Shembe United is a very good team with good and experience players but football is a game of 90 minutes and my players can pull a surprise because I am confident, they can beat Shembe United.”
The round of 16 matches will be rounded off today, Monday December 20th with Pokwangli United taking on Pero Boys while Gwandum Academy will lock horns with last year’s third best team, All Stars FC of Kaltungo.
