The 4th installment of the most exciting tournament for Opens category players the Dynamite Opens is set to hold in Lagos this weekend from September 10 to 11.
This year’s edition will serve as a preparatory ground for players hoping to make some marks at the forthcoming National Sports Festival in Asaba, Delta State.
The 2-day event will enjoy the ratings of the Nigeria Scrabble Federation (NSF) while a total of 18 games will be played.
Players from higher institutions have in recent past used the tournament as an entry point into scrabble competition where their mindgame skills are honed for future major championships.
“This year’s edition”, according to Khaleel Adedeji who is the chief organiser said, “is a bit special. Special in the sense that we believe, youths and university players that possess the raw talent which when fine-tuned can propel them to be potential World champions are massively represented. ” He further affirmed that, “Our aim is to examine how they compete within themselves sportingly and psychologically.”
The Dynamite Opens according to the organisers remains the biggest platform for aspiring scrabblers to start off from the baseline to hitting the headlines.
Players with ratings from 1199 and below are eligible to participate by registering for the annual tournament which would hold at the Kentade Hotel and Suites, Abule Egba.
Meanwhile in a fresh development, registration has been extended till 10am on Friday.

Past winners have graduated into higher categories like the intermediate and the Masters.
Gbadebo Olufemi and Alagbada Babajide who won the first and the second edition respectively have found strong footings in the Masters while Onu Jeffrey who took home the third edition title last year now compete at the intermediate category.
