Enyimba of Aba defender, Farouk Mohammed will not be in action for The Peoples’ Elephant on Wednesday, as he has been knocked out by injury from their CAF Confederation Cup first leg semi-final against Raja Casablanca of Morocco.
The Ghanaian full back, who scored the single goal away to Djoliba of Mali in the fifth group match, will no longer play any part with the Aba club in they reach the final, as he is nursing an ankle injury.
The injury setback is a huge blow to Mohammed, who had declared earlier that his main challenge is to win the CAF Confederation Cup title with Enyimba this season.
Though he will now miss the remaining matches of the tournament due to the injury, Mohammed maintained that his absence will not make any difference in Enyimba’s target to win the trophy.
Mohammed declared: “Although I am not happy because of my injury which serious and has kept me off the pitch but there is nothing anyone can do about it.
The doctors have told me to rest till next season but it will not stop my team mates from chasing our goal which is to make our fans proud and win the trophy.
“This is my first year with Enyimba and I really wish to be part of the history by the end of the competition.
“Enyimba is a big African club so it is normal that we are one of the main candidates for the Confederation Cup title.
“The team is filled with experienced players and coaches, so I am happy to be one of them.
“The trip to Morocco is not now, the most important thing for us now is to beat Raja Casablanca 3-4 goals here on Wednesday before we can start talking of away.
“The Confederation Cup is the second most important trophy for clubs in Africa and many players want to win it in their careers and I don’t think anybody in Enyimba would play with this opportunity.”
