3SC defenders Gbolade Adelowo and Adeleye Aniyikaye are back to the team after an anticipated deal to Akrahaba SC fell through, Sports247 reports.
The central defenders travelled out for a trial with Qatari side Akrahaba SC at the end of the 2023/24 season.
According to an official statement from 3SC the deal did not materialise due to the recruitment policy of the county and the players have to return back to Nigeria despite their impressive showing during the trials.
“The deal did not work out due to some reasons, which has to do with the recruitment policy of the Asian country, leaving both central defenders with no option than to return” a club statement said.
The Qatar Stars League (QSL) can only register a maximum of seven players per season and at least two of the foreign players must be under the age of 23
Gbolagade Adelowo made the headline last season in the Nigeria Premier Football League last when he played all the 38 matches of the season for Shooting Stars and was crowned the club’s player of the season.
He formed a very dependable partnership with Adeleye Aniyikaye at the heart of the Shooting Stars defence helping the Ibadan based club to an impressive finish on the log after overcoming a poor start.
However, the two players have since resumed training with the Ibadan soccer lords, under the watchful eyes of the coach Gbenga Ogunbote led coaching crew.
Both Aniyikaye and Gbolagade played significant roles in Shooting Stars’ impressive performance last season before travelling out of the country to try their luck with the Qatari club.
