Thirty Players that took part in the 3rd edition of Engr. Nimrod/ YSFON Under 20 Football Competition in Adamawa state have been invited to camp for the annual RAMART/YSFON under 20 football competition in Kano.
The 30 Players were selected from the recently completed Engr. Nimrod / YSFON Under 20 football competition held in Hong.
According the National Organising Secretary of YSFON, Abdulrazak Usman, he said “Twenty of the selected players will be selected to represented Adamawa state in this year’s RAMART under 20 football competition in Kano”.
He added that ” apart from players being selected to represented their states from competitions like this, the sponsor of YSFON Under 20 football competition in Adamawa, Engineer Musa Nimrod has also seek for partnership with a foreign football academy that some of the talented stars will be sent to further develop them and the game in Nigeria”
Usman also said that “The 30 Players selected and invited to camp will play a friendly match against the Adamawa United feeders club in Yola and maybe some of this players could make it to Adamawa United feeders or the senior team”.
Sponsors of the competition, Engineer Nimrod Musa who is the President Nigeria Volleyball Federation and Secretary General of Africa Volleyball Federation said in a telephone interview that ” the need to sponsor the competition over the years was his concern and to help develop sports generally in the state and the country which his way to help reduce youth restiveness in the country”
“If we have 80% of our youths positively engage in various sporting activities most of the crime in our society today will be reduced if not totally eradicated ” He said.
While calling on other well meaning Nigerians and cooperate organizations to support sports development in Nigeria, he said sports development should not be left alone for the government stressing that sports has the capability to boast the Nation’s revenue generation and human development.
Engineer Nimrod who was recently given a merit award for his numerous contributions towards sports development in the country by Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) promise to continue to do his best to promote sports in Nigeria.
Adamawa State Director of Sports, Esther Dominic who was the special guest of honor at the final of the 3rd edition of the competition commended the organizers of the competition.
She called on well to do individual and cooperate organizations to emulate Engineer Nimrod Musa who is not only sponsoring football but has in the last two weeks donated Volleyball kits to all Volleyball Association in all the six states in the Northeast.
Noting that “developing just one player in a family is removing poverty from that family and to an extend to some friends”
Shangue ward defeated Mayo-lope ward 5-4 on penalty to lift the giant trophy while Thilband ward defeated Bangshika ward who was the defending champion in the third place match.
