t is truly a thing of joy to be part of this gradual revolution happening in our very sport volleyball. As we clocked our 3rd year in the stewardship of the game in Nigeria, I can say, we can be proud of the changes and potentials for greater things that lie ahead for volleyball in Nigeria. We are a people of great resilience and determination.
We have all endured the hard times, seen the difficulties of growing the game, or consolidating our position as a great contender of the sport in the Continent. This is never a time to give up, but to sit up and live up, not only to the challenges but to the vision of greater things to come.
Despite the challenges of the past, we are always grateful to the Almighty for making it possible for us to reach where we are today. This is not a time to extol our achievements but to open our gates to more suggestions, opinions, and support, to move higher and do more for volleyball in Nigeria. It is also a thing of great joy to see that we do not give up on volleyball. Junior teams and many grassroots clubs are springing up in different parts of the country, we believe that this speaks so much of Hope and better days ahead.
Three years ago, we were bestowed with the mandate to lead the Nigeria Volleyball community to better days and status. It was not an easy ride, what we planned and did not envisage had happened in different times and situations. In all this, we give thanks to the Almighty for seeing us through this journey.
Our gratitude goes to the various bodies and their members that stood by us; these include the Board Members, that made up the Federation, The Nigeria volleyball Coaches and Referees Associations, as well as our prestigious stakeholders both at home and in the diaspora, we appreciate you for believing in us and inspiring us to do greater things.
The Nigeria Volleyball Players have demonstrated an unusual character over the years. We appreciate them. Though volleyball is not too lucrative a sport in Nigeria, but the passion and love for the game by players kept them in the fold of play, we are fully aware of their sacrifice and service, and with the plan we have on the ground, playing volleyball will soon be a very rewarding venture. We say a big thank you to all the volleyball players in Nigeria.
This year 2020 has a calendar, full of volleyball events, but with the unfortunate emergence of COVID-19 we are restrained from sports, but our vision and determination remain unperturbed. We also wish to express our gratitude to the Volleyball community for adherence to the embargo put on sports activities in tandem with the COVID -19 guidelines on health and safety.
We still wish to call on volleyball enthusiasts in all walks of life to come and join hands with the Federation in moving the game of Volleyball to the next level.
Immediately after the lockdown and restrictions, we will roll out our plans and programs, taking into consideration necessary safety precautions and guidelines for a healthy sporting season.
On behalf of the Board, I wish to commiserate with the entire Nigeria Volleyball Family, for the Lost of a national player, Paul Ashungu, and others of whom were bereaved by the loss of a family member. Accept our condolences.
Nigeria Volleyball is on the rise, our wish for a better future will be matched with actions, our drive for corporate partnership will be followed up with more zeal. Our earnest desire is to create a rewarding volleyball system that will engage and bring succor to all participants in the sport.
