All is now set for the commencement of the 2nd edition of Governor Abdullahi Sule Inter-Security Agencies Unity Cup Football Tournament.

Convener of the Competition and Senior Special Assistant to Governor Abdullahi Sule on Sports Affairs, Comr. Hamza Ibrahim Moyi, stated this on Wednesday when he met with representatives of the participating Agencies and other concerned stakeholders at the Board Room of the Nasarawa State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development in Lafia.
According to him, ten Security Agencies, split into Groups A and B will be taking part in the tournament which will Kick-start on Saturday, 30th December 2023, at the Lafia City Stadium, with the grand finale pegged for 27th January 2024, at the same venue.
Moyi mentioned the Agencies to include, defending Champions, Nasarawa State Youth Empowerment Scheme (NAYES), last year’s Runners-up, The Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Nigerian Correctional Service(NCS), National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Nigerian Army(NA), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Fire Service (FFS), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and State Security Service(SSS).
Four teams will qualify from each group through a round-robin pattern into the quarter-finals.
The tournament is aimed at fostering inter-agency cooperation, creating a symbiotic relationship between the Security Agencies and the civilian population as well as adequately and physically preparing them for their professional duties in their host communities.
NAYES defeated the Nigerian Police Force 9-8 through sudden death after regulation time ended 0-0 apiece at the first edition held on November 13th, 2022, at the Sports Complex of the Federal University of Lafia.
