2026 World Cup Qualifiers: Troost-Ekong Warns Zimbabwe To Forget Tuesday’s Match In Uyo, Osimhen Calls It ‘War’

The Super Eagles have landed in Uyo, ahead of Tuesday’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier with Zimbabwe, whom Nigeria’s captain, William Troost-Ekong said should forget about picking any point at Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.

Sports247 also gathered that, while Troost-Ekong insinuated that The Warriors of Zimbabwe need not turn up for Tuesday’s game at The Nest of Champions, Eagles’ top scorer, Victor Osimhen, who got both goals in Friday’s 2-0 spanking of hosts Rwanda, tagged the upcoming match as another part of unfolding ‘war’ for the World Cup ticket.

A media statement from the communications department of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) further disclosed the mood among the Eagles’ players on arrival at Uyo’s Victor Attah Airport, where Osimhen vowed full scale efforts from all the stars in their remaining matches, while Troost-Ekong emphasised the need to make history by the current set of players.

The Eagles’ skipper retorted, “We read somewhere that Zimbabwe are being motivated to come to Uyo and get a result. They should forget it. We are hugely motivated by the ambition to play at the FIFA World Cup.

“Apart from myself and Alex (Iwobi) and perhaps a couple of others, who were part of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, this generation is hungry to play at the highest level. We want to make Nigeria proud and, at the same time, do ourselves proud.”

Osimhen then added that winning Tuesday’s match is imperative to consolidate the Eagles’ revival in the qualification race and to further strengthen their surge up the group’s table, even as he acknowledged that the Nigerians must win all their remaining games at home and away, in order to grab the lone ticket available to next year’s Mundial.

“We are ready. The remaining matches are wars, and we must fight them with all we have to win,” the Galatasaray of Turkey hit man admitted.
