In the wake of their 2-0 victory away to Rwanda at the restart of the FIFA 2026 World Cup qualifiers on Friday, the Super Eagles have been warned to avoid taking their feet off the pedal.

Sports247 gathered that Friday’s victory in Kigali took the Eagles up to third position in their qualification group, but Rwanda’s former coach, Torsten Frank Spittler pointed out that a lot of hurdles still lie ahead of the three-time African champions.
The German football tactician admitted that the Super Eagles are one of Africa’s best rated teams and favourites to pick the group’s lone ticket to next year’s FIFA World Cup, but quickly added that they will have to fight for every point that they direly need from each match.
“Nigeria, for sure, is one of the biggest teams in Africa and even in the group, but they have to work harder. They have to do everything to keep their hope for the World Cup alive. Every game is very important for them,” Spittler pointed out.
Indeed, permutations by Sports247 revealed that it is not yet uhuru for the Super Eagles, as they could drop again to fourth spot after the next round of matches in the coming week.
Should they defeat Zimbabwe in Uyo on Tuesday, the Eagles will have nine points, but Rwanda play Lesotho at home and could again jump above Nigeria with 10 points if they win; as Benin Republic host South Africa and could go top with 11 points if they win, while Bafana Bafana will remain on ten points and take over second place in the group.
