Enterprising female football star, Kalu Gift is still relishing the hat trick she scored on the opening day of this year’s Women All Stars Football Competition in Lagos.
Although her treble of goals was only good enough to get a draw for ‘Team Nigeria’ in the contest at the Legacy pitch of the Lagos National Stadium, Gift told Sports247 that it is a motivation for her to net more in subsequent matches.
Gift, who was last year’s top scorer in the showcase competition organized by the Association of Nigeria Women Football Club Coaches (ANWFCC), conceded that the draw with ‘Team Germany’ was good enough as a starting point.
She added, “I really enjoyed the game, but it is not my first time playing in this competition. I was the highest goal scorer last year, and I am praying to do so again this year.”
She then applauded the organizers, but admitted that the task of replicating her top scoring heroics of 2024 can only materialize if her team starts winning and she scores more goals in their next game.
“I don’t know what the outcome will be this year, but I thank the organizers of this competition and those that made it come true.
I scored eight goals last year, but I want 12 to 15 this year. So, we have to win our next game at all cost.
It’s winning at all cost that we need and with more goals from me. I know that I’ll be the one to score the goals,” Gift assured her team’s fans.
