2025 AFCONQ: Ekong Envisages A Tough Game Vs Libya, Awoniyi Says Super Eagles Are Ready

The captain of the Super Eagles William Troost Ekong and Striker Taiwo Awoniyi have borne their mind on the 2025 Africa Cup Of Nations qualifier that will be coming up later today at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, Sports 247 reports.

The Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong, says he knew very little about the Mediterranean Knights of Libya which could make the encounter a tough one.

Speaking ahead of the encounter, Troost-Ekong told the press,

“I don’t know too much about them individually as players, but we are going to do a video meeting about them.

“Last time we played against them in 2018, I believe so. The team has changed a lot; I am not sure it is the same players; we have changed a lot since then, but I know it is going to be a difficult game”.

The captain speaks further on the readiness of the Super Eagles ahead of the important Matchday 3 encounter in the qualifying series.

“Every game is a tough game; playing in Africa is never easy, and I know they’re in town now, so they are taking preparations seriously.”

“Any team that wants to play against Nigeria will want to play a good game; we have to make sure we are ready.”

In a similar vein, Taiwo Awoniyi despite his limited playing time for English Premier League side, Nottingham Forest says he is ready to give his beat if called upon as the Super Eagles is ready to get the job done.

” It’s a great privilege to be selected and I think every player that is here is ready for the task for sure. Nothing but winning for the fans,” Awoniyi assured.

Taiwo Awoniyi is one of the strikers in the camp that could fill the space created by the absence of Victor Osimhen said the bonding in the Super Eagles camp is exciting as he emphasises the readiness of the team.

“We’ve known each other for years now, and we’ve gotten to see each other again. All the players are excited about it, and for sure, we are ready for the game.”

It’s a clash between the team at the top of the table with a team at the bottom.

While the Super Eagles are seeking to consolidate their stay at the top, the Libyans are battling for survival as anything short of a point might get them eliminated from the group.

Nigeria is on top of Group D with four points after two games, and a win in Uyo will leave the Libya at the brink of elimination if Benin Vs Rwanda match produces a winner, so the Libyans are in a make or break situation which proposes a tough game later today.
