2025 AFCONQ: Air-Borne Super Eagles Make Last Minute Change In Travel Plan To Libya

The Super Eagles are currently airborne but have to ditch their initial travel plans of travelling to Tripoli, Libya before connecting Benghazi but instead connecting Benghazi straight, the venue of the return leg between Nigeria and Libya in the 2025 African Cup of Nations (2025 AFCON) qualifying matches, Sports247 reports.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria left for Libya on Sunday afternoon via Abuja Value Jet airline which is about 12 hours flight time to Tripoli , connecting Benghazi, the venue of the match, with a road travel trip of 2 hours.

Sports247 gathered that the Super Eagles flight had to stop at Kano occasion by a tweak in the original travel as they abandoned the old plans and instead chose to travel straight to Benghazi, cutting off the extraneous road travel for the Super Eagles.

A quick check on the flight duration from Kano to Benghazi, Libya shows the 18 hours and 6 minutes.

With this new arrangement , the Super Eagles are expected to land in Benghazi early Monday Morning, just over 24 hours to the return leg of the 2025 AFCON qualifying match between the two countries.

Nigeria defeated Libya by Fisayo Dele Bashiru 86th minute’s goal at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo last Friday.

The Super Eagles will confront the Mediterranean Knights of Libya at the Martyrs of Benina Stadium in Benina, outside Benghazi by 8 pm Nigerian time.

Nigeria is leading group D of the 2025 AFCON qualifying series with seven points and a victory for the Super Eagles will secure a place in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations which will take place in Morocco.

Nigeria finished second in the last edition held in Cote d’Ivoire last year, the Super Eagles were defeated 2-1 by the Elephants of Cote d’ivoire in the final.
