2025 AFCON: Spittler, Eguavoen Reveal High Expectations As Nigeria Takes On Rwanda Today

Nigerian and Rwandan coaches, Augustine Eguavoen and Torsten Frank Spittler have reveal their expectations ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup Nations qualifying encounter in group D between the Nigeria and Rwanda Today, Tuesday 10 September in Kigali.

The two coaches anticipate a great and tough encounter, but positive results for thwie respective sides as both teams lock horns at the Amahoro Stadium at 2 pm kick off, asking for the maximum three points at stake.

Rwanda head coach Spittler, admitted that the talents in the Nigeria side will give his side a tough encounter but he expects his side to get a positive result in front of their home fans.

“It is going to be a tough game. We are going to play against a world class squad with quality players” said the German coach in a pre-match conference in Kigali on Monday.

He however trusts his boys to deliver, banking on the team’s steady improvement and growth in training since he took in November 2023.

” This is our fourth camping and the players are so far improving in everyday training, our training has been good and I am positive we will get something out of the encounter,” he said.

Nigeria head coach Augustine Eguavoen on his side believes the game will be a great one as the Super Eagles are in Rwanda for a mission and won’t come short, despite having lots of respect for the host.

“This is my third time here; the first time I came as an assistant coach to Christian Chukwu. I respect Rwanda very much and they also respect us. It will be a great game but our objective is to win the game.”

“I will commend Rwanda for the great reception we have received. We are on a mission and we hope to achieve our target,” Eguavoen emphasized.

The match will be Augustine Eguavoen’s second game in charge,after taking over as the manager of the team less than three weeks ago, in his fourth stint as the coach of the Super Eagles.

He will be confronting
the German tactician, Thomas Spittler’s of Rwandan who has seen his evolving side recorded three wins, three draws and one defeat in the seven matches under the German gaffer in all competitions since he took over the team.

Rwanda drew 1-1 with Libya in Tripoli on match day 1 while Nigeria also thrashed neighbors Benin 3-0 at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo to go on top of the Group D, a win or draw for Nigeria will keep the Super Eagles at the top of the log.

However, a win for the Amavubis will see them move past the Super Eagles and who stays top will depend on the on the outcome of the other group D match between Benin Republic and Libya.
