2025 AFCON: Gernot Rohr In Bullish Mood Ahead Of Super Eagles Vs Benin Republic Clash

Coach Germot Rohr of Benin Republic is confident and optimistic about his team getting a positive result as the Cheetahs of Benin Republic begins their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifying campaign this weekend against the Super Eagles of Nigeria, Sports 247 reports.

The former Super Eagles coach who is currently leading the preparations of the Cheetahs in Abidjan, Ivory Coast told local media about his expectations in the match billed for Saturday 7 September 2024.

The coach is banking on his familiarity and his clear knowledge of the Super Eagles to defeat the Super Eagles for the second time in four months after Benin Republic defeated Nigeria in the 2026 World Cup Qualifier in Ivory Coast.

“I wish them (Super Eagles) luck, but certainly not against my team because we want to win again, “I’m familiar with the environment, the players, and everything. I’m confident that we will leave Nigeria with a positive result.” Gernot boast.

The Franco- German coached the Super Eagles to the 2017 AFCON and the 2018 FIFA World Cup before he was sacked during the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, after working with the team for five years.

The Cheetahs are expected to arrive in Uyo on Thursday, 72 hours before the weekend match.

Meanwhile the Super Eagles are currently perfecting strategy to avenge the loss the team suffered in hands of Beninoise in June under the tactical guidance of Coach Augustine Eguavoen as twenty players had their training earlier this morning in Uyo as they intensify preparations for the game.

The Super Eagles will be looking to end their winless streak since they finished second in the 2023 edition after losing the final match 2-1 against the host, Ivory Coast.
