Considered to be the most successful table tennis player in Africa, Aruna Quadri was forced to quit in the last seconds on the recommendation of the WTT medical team, who felt that the Nigerian needed to rest his muscles in preparation for next month’s Olympic Games in Paris.
Aruna Quadri withdrew from both the WTT Contender Lagos and the WTT Star Contender in Slovenia last week in order to prepare for his fourth Olympic Games appearance in France.
Similarly, Calderano who had initially expressed his willingness to be in Lagos for the championship, told the LOC that his decision to cancel his participation was based on his medical team’s advice over a recurring back pain.
The Brazilian, who clinched his second WTT Star Contender title and sixth WTT Series singles at the WTT Star Contender Ljubljana in Slovenia on Sunday, June 16, was eagerly looking forward to the Lagos party.
In a video message sent to the Local Organising Committee (LOC), Calderaono pleaded with the organisers and the Lagos fans while promising to visit Lagos soon.
