2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations: Yemisi Akintoye Qualified For Specialized Training Ahead Tournament

Nigeria’s Women Fifa Referee from the Lagos State Council Yemisi Eunice Akintoye who is among the women referees from Africa invited for the Preparations for African Women Championship WAFCON this morning passed her fitness test.

Yemisi Akintoye was badged as a FIFA Referee in 2021. She has been at a few international competitions which include, the WAFU Women Champion’s League, and the Aisha Buhari Tournament, among others.

Selected for her outstanding skills, the University of Lagos graduate, Yemisi Akintoye, was included in an elite group by the Confederation of African Football CAF for specialized training. The training, set for June 9-13 in Morocco, aims to uphold high officiating standards at the forthcoming 2024 Women’s African Cup of Nations.

Though the tournament dates are yet to be finalized, the selection of Akintoye as the sole representative from Nigeria underscores her reputation as one of Africa’s leading referees.

The 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, officially known as the 2024 TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations and as WAFCON 2024, will be the 15th edition of the biennial African women’s football tournament organized by the Confederation of African Football. It will be hosted by Morocco in consecutive editions, having hosted the previous edition two years before.

Qualified Nations for this year African Women Championship WAFCON are Morocco (Hosts) Algeria, Botswana, DR Congo, Ghana, Mali, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Tunisia and Zambia.
