The 2024 Delta State Ethnic Peace and Unity Cup ended on a high note, fostering unity and celebrating sporting excellence among ethnic groups in Delta State.

The tournament, journey started from November 16th to December 8th, featured teams representing various ethnic groups.
Group Stage
Preliminary matches took place in multiple centers across Delta State, including:
1. Oleh Township Stadium
2. Kwale Township Stadium
3. Nana Model College Stadium
4. Ogbe-Ijoh Secondary School field
These matches showcased the teams’ skills, determination and sportsmanship.
Novelty Match
A special novelty match was played between Team Itsekiri/Ijaw and other ethnic groups at Ode-Itsekiri to flag-off and equally use to mark World Tolerance Day, where the initiator Chief Sheriff Mulade, LOC members, and some retired Nigeria Super Eagles players the likes of Sam Sodje, Edema Fuludu etc traveled to Ode-itsekiri through the riverway to witness the All-stars curtain-raiser and ensure the objective and organisation of the event meet it’s standard and promoting inter-ethnic unity and friendly competition.
Knockout Stage and Finals
The knockout stage led to the thrilling grand finale between Itsekiri Ugbomarun FC and Ndokwa East United FC. Itsekiri Ugbomarun FC emerged victorious, winning 3-1 and claiming the championship title. This process started at Obiaruku Secondary School Field and Ogbe Primary School Field Effurun in Uvwie LGA as quarter finals leading to the semifinals, which were played at Oleh Township Stadium and Ogor Technical College, Ughelli South LGA.
Awards and Prizes
Champions (Itsekiri Ugbomarun FC): ₦2 million cash prize, trophy, and gold medals
Runner-up (Ndokwa East United FC): ₦1.5m million cash prize and silver medals.
Third-place winner (Team Urhobo, Udu United fc) 1 million cash prize and bronze medals
Fourth-place teams:#500,000 and consolation prizes. However, Team Isoko, who are supposed to be fourth place winners, was disqualified and banned from participating in the next edition for bridging the tournament guidelines.
The Delta State Ethnic Peace and Unity Cup achieved its primary objective: fostering unity among ethnic groups. “This tournament has strengthened our bond and showcased the rich cultural heritage of Delta State,” said Chief Ken Nwoamucha, Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee.
Future Prospects
The success of the 2024 tournament has paved the way for future (5th) editions. Plans are underway to expand participation, introduce new categories and ensure the event remains a cornerstone of Delta State’s sporting calendar.
