Three Nigerians will be competing in the final of their different events of the ongoing Paris 2024 Paralympics today, (Thursday 5 September 2024), Sports 247 reports.
Barely twenty hours after Esther Nworgu delivered the Silver Medal in the 41kg Para-powerlifting event to Nigeria’s second medal, the country has another opportunity to win more medals as the game enters day 8.
Goodness Nwachukwu, will be the first to compete on Thursday for a medal at 10:00 am.
She will be competing in the final of Women’s F64 ShotPut, final alongside other seven contestants in the category which is designated for athletes with lower limb impairments, including those who compete with prosthetics or have differences in leg length.
By 11 am, it will be the turn of Bose Bejide in the Para Powerlifting Women 50 Kg final, while Kure Thomas will be the first man to compete for Nigeria in the Para Powerlifting event by 5:35 pm. Kure Thomas will be competing in the final of Men’s 65 kg by 5:35 pm
Hannah Babalola, who lost out in the first round of the 100 m T54, after coming sixth in heat 1 on Wednesday, will have another chance to redeem herself as she will roll her wheel chair taking to 400 m Women T54 track by 12:03 pm in the round 1 of the event.
The week has been a good week for Nigeria as far as winning of medals is concerned at the Paralympics, by winning one silver and one bronze medal to stay on number 61 on the medals’ table
Mariam Eniola Bolaji made history as the first African to win a para Badminton medal at the Paralympics by winning a Bronze medal while Esther Nworgu won the silver medal in the Para Powerlifting 41kg by setting up a new African Record in the event.
