Team Prossy’s enterprising player, Ike Ibe has dedicated his man of the match award from their second victory at the 2024 Achievers Cup to his wife and their unborn baby.
He disclosed as much in an exclusive chat with Sports247 seconds after helping Team Prossy snatch another 3-0 win in the competition that is being organised by Island All Stars Sports Club and sponsored by Providus Bank.
Saturday’s victory over Team Candl came two weeks after Prossy silenced Team T-Gold with the same result, thereby leaving Ibe confident of finally lifting the trophy with his colleagues.
He told Sports247 with excitement in his voice, “This victory means a lot, because we needed the win for us to go higher.
“I trust my team, because all the players are doing well during our matches.”
Although he is enthusiastic that Prossy will eventually win the recreational competition meant for ex-international footballers, Ibe admitted that it will not be a stroll in the park.
“For the game, it’s 50-50. But, for me, I think we are trying to do our best in the field. It’s not as the spectators say that we were better than the opponents.
“I only think we are giving more effort in the field, and I believe we will continue like this. We want to continue winning.
“That’s what we want to do. It’s a collective effort, and this victory is for all of us, not just for me,” Ibe clarified.
He, however, decided to look towards his own home whilst celebrating his man of the match award, as he mentioned his pregnant wife, and then refrained from talking about his team’s rivals for the cup.
Ibe stated with sheer delight, “I am dedicating this award to my beautiful wife and the upcoming baby.
“I am not telling all the other teams anything. I just want my own team to continue working hard and keep winning all our games. That’s what we are here for.”
He will now aim for more heroics next weekend, when the 2024 Achievers Cup continues with more matches.
