2024 CHAN Qualifier: Nigeria, Ghana Unveil Squad Ahead of Jollof Derby On Sunday

Nigeria and Ghana have unveiled their squad ahead of the 2024 CHAN qualifier in Ghana between two countries on Sunday, Sports247 reports.

The match, code named Jollof Derby due to the deep rooted rivalry between the two sides is the first leg of the 2024 African Championship qualifier will be played in Accra on Sunday.

The two teams have finally released their squad ahead of the crunchy tie after weeks of preparations.

The Nigeria coach, Daniel Ogunmodede, the coach of the Super Eagles B, was the first to release his squad on Friday morning.

The squad is headlined by ageless Rabiu Ali and Sikiru Alimi who have graced the CHAN in the past, as the coach picked 18 players out of the 30 players in camp.

The team consists of two Goalkeepers, four midfielders and five forwards, a blend of experience with youthfulness.

Defenders: Ismail Sadiq (Remo Stars); Waliu Ojetoye (Ikorodu City); Imo Obot (Enyimba FC); Junior Nduka (Remo Stars); Victor Collins (Nasarawa United); Ifeanyi Onyebuchi (Rangers International); Steven Manyo (Rivers United)

Midfielders: Jide Fatokun (Remo Stars); Rabiu Ali (Kano Pillars); Saviour Isaac (Rangers International); Musa Zayyad (El-Kanemi Warriors)

Forwards: Anas Yusuf (Nasarawa United); Adamu Abubakar (Plateau United) Sikiru Alimi (Remo Stars); Emmanuel Ogbole (Kwara United); Papa Daniel Mustapha (Niger Tornadoes)

Meanwhile, Ghana coach Mas-Ud Dramani responded later on Friday by releasing a 26 man squad for the match.

Headlining the squad are defenders Razak Simpson (Nations FC), Nurudeen Abdulai (Medeama SC), Kusi Asante (Vision FC), Isaac Afful (FC Samartex 1996) and Kamaradini Mamudu (Medeama SC).

There are also places for midfielders Emmanuel Antwi (Asante Kotoko), Manuel Mantey (Medeama SC), Ibrahim Hafiz (Attram de Visser), while forwards Charwatey Faisal (Nations FC), Jerry Afriyie (Thoughts FC), Issah Yakubu (Basake Holy Stars) and Albert Amoah (Asante Kotoko SC), will lead the line for the hosts.

The return leg is scheduled for Saturday December 28, 2024 in Nigeria.

The Black Galaxies beat Togo in an international friendly last week as part of preparations for the must-win game against the Nigerians.

The CHAN tournament is set to be staged in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania in 2025
